Dave Winslow
About the DAL | Past Presidents | Dave Winslow

Dave Winslow
1989 - 1990

Dave Winslow is president of Winslow’s Barbeque and Buzz New Media, LLC, both located in Kansas City, Missouri.

After graduating from the University of Missouri, Columbia’s School of Journalism with a bachelor’s degree in advertising, Dave began his career with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Springfield, Illinois. As district director, he supervised and coordinated a staff and hundreds of volunteer groups in three markets for the Jerry Lewis Telethon.

In 1980, he moved to Dallas as an account executive with the March Agency, a small creative shop. After six years of rapid agency growth, Dave was named president. Two years later, working with Dallas Public Relations executive, Karen Taylor, Dave purchased and renamed the agency: Winslow Taylor Marketing Communications.

Community service has always been part of Dave’s life beginning with the Head Start program for inner-city children. Dave also served as a founding member of The 100 of Dallas, a 501c3 that raised hundreds of thousands for local child abuse centers and as a board member of Dr. Kenneth Sayler’s International Craniofacial Foundation. Dave was also elected Ad2 president, then the only Dallas-based club in the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Working with DAL president Jim Goodnight and the AAF board in Washington, Dave is proud to have played a role in the return of the league to the AAF family.

In 1986, Dave was named chairman of the TOPS Awards at a time when the league was in a difficult financial position. With Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as a backdrop and Vincent Price as a wickedly charming MC, the show broke revenue and attendance records, helping return the club to firm financial footing. Dave was then elected to the DAL board, serving as president in 1989 -90. With a dedicated board, improved programming such as the Wall Street Journal’s Creative Leader’s Panels, and revitalization of numerous league activities the club’s membership increased over 30 percent. Dave was active in the 10th District and served two terms on the AAF’s Board of Directors in Washington, DC. In 1998, Dave worked with AAF West Coast vice president Janet Kennedy to produce the AAF’s first “live” internet broadcast which took place during the AAF’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

In 1990, Winslow Taylor merged with The Evans Group, forming their PR division and creating the opportunity to work with two past DAL presidents, George Arnold and Webb Sherrill. Dave has had the good fortune to work on top regional and national accounts such as; Centennial Homes, Stonebridge Ranch, ReMax Realty, On The Border Restaurants, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), Haggar WW, Dal-Tile, and Bruce Hardwood Floors.

Since 1994, Dave has lived in Kansas City where he has owned and operated multiple dining and entertainment venues including the family’s Winslow’s Barbeque. Dave continues to be involved in marketing and communications as president of Buzz New Media, a consulting group focused on the evolution of internet communications. He has served two terms as president of The River Market Business Association in addition to serving on a number of civic boards. Dave is certified as an executive coach with Coach Lab International and as a trainer with the Franklin Covey Company and has developed and presented numerous workshops on time management, process development and aging demographics. Dave lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife Stephanie and two daughters Rachael and Haley.
